Getting Started

Voice Metrics Explained

• Pitch (Hz): Fundamental frequency - higher for females/children, lower for males
• Zero Crossing Rate: How often signal crosses zero - indicates voicing vs noise
• Spectral Centroid: "Center of mass" of frequencies - brightness of sound
• Spectral Rolloff: Frequency below which 85% of energy is contained
• Spectral Spread: Standard deviation of frequency distribution
• Spectral Flatness: 0=tonal (voice), 1=noisy - indicates voice quality
• Jitter: Pitch variation between frames - low is better for voice health
• Shimmer: Amplitude variation - low indicates stable voice
• HNR (Harmonics-to-Noise Ratio): Higher = clearer voice (>10dB is good)
• Spectral Flux: Rate of spectral change - detects onsets and transitions

Voice Quality Score

Composite score (0-100) based on:

• Low jitter and shimmer (voice stability)
• High HNR (clarity)
• Appropriate spectral flatness (tonal quality)

Voice Health Indicators

• Normal: All metrics within healthy ranges
• High Jitter/Shimmer: May indicate vocal strain or fatigue
